Please help me to return this CANNON Family Bible...
« on: Wednesday 20 July 05 13:48 BST (UK) »
I have a 1761 King James Version which I am seeking to reunite with the descendants of the family. It contains a handwritten history of the Cannons (17?? - 1905), penned by various family members during those years. The last Cannons mentioned therein are:

Peregrine Fernie Cannon (b. 23/04/1895, d. 06/10/1916 - Somme, WW1)

Twins Marian and Doris Cannon (b. 09/09/1897, d. 06/04/1898 & 08/04/1898) Buried St. Bees.

Robert Clark Cannon (b. 29/07/1896 aboard the ship "Sir Robert Fernie" off the Californian Coast. Baptized at St. Bees)

There are various other Cannons mentioned - mostly born and buried in or near near St. Bees, Isel and "Blindcrath" (?)

Prior to this there are a Braithwaite (Lucy Walton), a Wilson (Abigail) and a Fisher (?) who all marry into the family.

So what happened to Robert Clark Cannon ? Could he still have children or grandchildren near St. Bees ? Or Harrington ? And how did this dusty great thing end up in a secondhand bookshop in Liverpool about ten years ago ? !!! I didn't pay much for it but it's possibly got great sentimental value for someone. It'd be nice if it could just be reunited with the family.

You can see some of my research into this matter here:

I might ask on the Lancs board too as there is a Liverpool connection.

Thanks,
Mike.

These appear to be (some) of the siblings.  Might be worth seeing if you can follow them forward and produce any other names.  The problem will be that you really need BMD information 1910 onwards and the only way you are likely to get it is to look it up at the FRC/on fiche at somewhere local to you or pay 1837online.com

Try writing to Family Tree Magaizine or Practical Family History.   What about contacting the local family history group?   Is there an address on cwgc.org for the war death?

You could try posting members of the family on www.GenesReunited.co.uk and seeing if anyone contacts you - it's free that way. There are several Cumberland/Cumbria Cannons and loads of Liverpool ones posted already so you might be lucky. Hope you do find a home for it, looks beautiful.
Cheers Jan ;)

This bible belonged to the Cannon family. Lucy Walton Cannon nee Braithwaite was my great-grandmother's sister, she was Mary Anne  Braithwaite. My father knew Lucy but never spoke of cousins. I have a photo of Lucy probably before her marriage.

Hi Barbains

Welcome to Rootschat :D

MTRIGBY hasn't been on Rootchat since Feb last year - I do hope he still receives notification of replys and gets back to you. Although his other thread on the Lancs board

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,76350.0.html

suggests the bible may have already been rehomed
