In closing I do feel a little sympathy for Ellen. We do not know the full story of her relationships and the facts of who deserted whom and why.
Perhaps the older CARLO was not a good husband and by the time she married FOSTER many years may have passed since she'd had contact with him.
I think the law was forgiving in the matter, and, if at least seven years of "whereabouts unknown" had elapsed, another marriage was allowed.
As for James BUXTON, well there is mention of "his wife" in the 1914 news item about his death, so someone was perhaps sharing family life with the children left behind by Ellen.
The wording of the marriage announcement placed by Gwendoline BUXTON sounds as if she was either not aware of, or not acknowledging the marriage of her mother to George FOSTER.
Interesting to note too, that in the death notice for James Alexander, the .existence of Ada as his child is not acknowledged.
