In the 1891 census address 75.Kelvinside Avenue Glasgow
William Murray age 41 b Airdrie building contractor
Mary Murray age 30 b Balfron
Martha Murray age 18 contractors assistant
John Murray age 15  ...Thomas age 13

Same family in the 1901 census address Campbell Street Maryhill Martha also there
Is this not the same family

Hi

Just a thought...

Have you located the family in the 1911 census? If Martha is not with them it might be worth a search  for her in the marriages and deaths between 1901 and 1911 - the cert. might help confirm her parentage. Witnesses on a marriage cert might also shed light.

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)

Re Rosie's query about Martha McKinnon/Murray in 1881 Census. That is who I mean by 'my' Martha! As I could not find any Martha McKinnon with a mother named Mary in 1881,I felt more confident that Martha Murray was the illegitimate Martha that William found.  I shall follow up on his 1911 Census suggestion though I can only access the Scottish 1911 through SP so will have to wait til my budget catches up.   :(

As 2 of Rosie's comments are on different pages, I missed one of them.  The family in 1891 and 1901 that she noted, are the family I am researching - It was because there was confusion with a Janet's birth but no Martha Murray's birth in this family that I posted my query - with very helpful results  :)
