Find my Past has a marriage licence index entry (transcript only) for the Davidge/Hattersley marriage, dated 25 Mar 1788. It has John Davedge age 36 (so born c. 1752) of Bolton and Diana Hattersley age 25 (so born 1763) of Ecclesfield.

This is probably where your date of birth info came from.

Maybe worth a look perhaps John Davidge & Dinah named their children
Elizabeth c1786, Diana c1788, William c1791 & John c1792 after parent/s - although this baptism is a little earlier than 1752  :-\

John Davidge born   12 Nov 1748
Baptism 27 Nov 1748 St Bartholomew The Great,London
Father: William Davidge Mother:Elizh.
details from England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975

other DAVIDGE baptism same place & with same parents names

Benjamin 28 May 1765 born 11 May,
Samuell 27 Jan 1860 b22 Dec 1759
George 7 Sep 1761 b 25 Aug,
Thomas 7 Oct 1752 b 29 Sept.,

Hi Ladyhawk.
Now that sounds quite feasable ,if only i could get access to the apprenticeship records i might be able to pinpoint him better ,that would make him 40 when he married  and 44years old when he died .??.
all the best .

Hi Everyone.
I have been in touch with Bolton Archives and received a little bit of info.
At Prestolee in the late 1700s there were 2 paper mills named Higher & lower Mills, however in 1777 lower mill closed and higher mill was extended and became  CREAMS  mill and was owned by the CROMPTON family..
Does anyone know of any records at all about this mill and the people that worked there.
Any help or info most welcome ,many thanks Arry
