Felix Owen b ca 1835 Manchester
« on: Thursday 28 April 16 14:46 BST (UK) »
I am pretty sure this name is Felix aged 16 apprentice dyer.
1851 Class: HO107; Piece: 2221; Page: 9
William Owen 30 dyer journeyman b Dublin, Ireland
Susannah Owen 40 b Dublin Ireland
Catherine Owen 19 factory girl
Foler Owen [Felix?]16 dyer app
Jane Owen 11
Henry Owen ?7
Thomas Owen age illegible
all born Manchester
Charlotte Owen 2 b Hulme

1851 census HO107; Piece: 2221; Page: 9 son of William Owen dyer & Susannah both born Dublin Ireland. I cannot find Felix [or similar] on the 1841 census or any record post 1851. I found possible baptisms for Charlotte & Thomas father William at St Wiflrid's Hulme on the public data search at
http://mlfhs.org.uk/data/catholic_results.php

Can anyone help please? Thanks, Josey

Oh wow - how could I not have found that...thank you very much.

ADDED: even better, as Patrick is born Ireland then I can surmise that William & Susannah no doubt married there ca 1825....

Have found a Felix Owens age 50 b Ireland in Cockermouth in 1871 RG10; Piece: 5240; Folio: 22; Page: 12 but he is a cattle dealer....

There is a Margaret Owen born England 1869 with parents Felix and Maria on familysearch
They appear to have moved to Rhode Island, another entry gives her mother as Maria Madden, There is a marriage Rochdale Jun 1866 for a Maria Madden and Felix "Hones".
Also a death notice in the Rochdale Observer 20 April 1867
"Owen -
on the 15th ins aged 4 months Mary Ann daughter of Felix Owen, card loom jobber, Lark Street."
Of course this might be a completely different Felix.

Thanks, will look into that.

Just realised that the ages in 1841 are a bit of a prob - William & Susannah both '20' but Patrick '15' so unlikely to be their child? Perhaps William's brother?

In 1851 HO107; Piece: 2221; Page: 9 William is '30' & Susannah '40', 1861 RG 9; Piece: 2943; Folio: 27; Page: 7; 2 Cheetham St William '45' Susannah '50', 1871 not yet found, 1881 RG11; Piece: 3898; Folio: 70; Page: 26; 3 Cross St William '60'.

ADDED: This could be Jane's birth reg, it's the only Jane Owens in Manchester 1839 Q1 - 1840 Q4
Births Mar 1840
Owens    Jane        Manchester    20   543
may be worth getting for Susannah's MN

There's a payment for an inquest in the Rochdale District on a Felix Owens of Wardleworth on 8 Jan 1870 [no corresponding death on freebmd].

It seems he could be this Felix in 1861

Mary Howens   w 54
Felix Howens   s 26 grinder in cotton mill

all born ireland

the ages in that 1841 are not really a problem. Anyone over 15 usually had their age rounded down to the nearest 5 so a 20 year old could be between 20 and 24 years old. This 2 people could show as the same age whereas their ages were 2 or 3 years different
