francis phillips - new york
« on: Monday 25 April 16 17:36 BST (UK) »
I am trying to confirm a death record for Francis Phillips at the age of 120 ??
He was born at Hampshire, England in 1814 - In 1872 Francis with his wife Emily and 4 children (Emma 24, George 19, Charlotte 17 & Edith 11) emigrated to the USA (New York)
Emily died in 1897 and is buried at Island Hill Cemetery, Buskirk, Rensselaer County, New York
The last trace I can find of Francis is in 1905 aged 90 when he was living with his widowed son George at Buskirk.
There is a burial record at Island Hill Cemetery showing Francis Phillips born 24 Dec 1814 and dying on 23 Jul 1935 aged 120 with wife's name of Emily.
I would like to be able to confirm this from a death record or obituary because it just seems impossible - have not been able to find him of the 1920 or 1930 census records
Any help would be appreciated

Have you tried to contact the person who created the find a grave memorial for Francis Phillips. Perhaps he could supply you with the photograph of the headstone inscription or you could request one yourself.

The person who put it on Find a Grave has over 900,000 entries, so I suspect the information may have come from elsewhere.  It may have been copied from here - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyrensse/cemp5.htm

I would click on the request a photo button on Find a Grave, so maybe someone in the area can take a picture.  It could be a transcription error or the gravestone has more than one person buried in it, which caused confusion.

Do you have a link for the 1905 NY state census?

In a North White Creek NY/Washington County Post from 28 Jul. 1905, it says that Francis Philips died on Jul. 23rd in Buskirk in his 91st year.  If you go on www.fultonhistory.com and do a Boolean search for francis w/3 philips and "white creek", it should be the first result.
