Property search?
« on: Sunday 24 April 16 20:01 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if it's possible to find out the history of a property? I live in my grandparents house and I have a copy of their mortgage document that says they bought the bungalow in 1952 for £800!!!! ::)
I also have grandfathers Air Force records that show he was at this address in 1942 and it was said that they rented before they bought the place. So I just wondered who they rented from and when they moved here. They married in April 1941 so I guess it was around that time and he was born in 1912. I see there is a 1939 register just wondered if anyone could do a house search for me or a search for them? His name was
William John Sandle / Sandall and her maiden name Edith Nellie brown
The address I'm interested in is Cheltenham Drive, Leigh on sea, Essex
Any suggestions would be grateful  ;D

Try to do your own search,  then you can use your local knowledge to search more successfully, I think.

William sandall seems to be in billericay in the 1939 register, you can search the free index on find my past using address search, Cheltenham drive is easily found by entering Essex as the county, you have a choice of two, choose the one in Southend  :)

As you know the house number you should find a preview.

To open the record costs, and lookups for you are not allowed on rootschat.

A better option, since you live there would be to ask the local library where you can look up the electoral rolls for 1938, that might tell you who was living there then,

Hello,

What about the deeds to your house? Do they not show some history?

I think the deeds just show that they bought it in 1952 and I was just wondering when they actually moved in here as they rented first but maybe not possible to ever really find out when. But I shall have a look back over them in case thank you

Contact the Essex Record Office they have a programme "the history of my house" they could give you some advise.
