James Brennan & family Liverpool
« on: Saturday 23 April 16 14:24 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate any help with the following:
James Brennan b. c 1887 in Leighlinbridge Co Carlow Ireland. He married Mary Higgins from Co Waterford c. 1910.
They had 3 daughters Elizabeth (Betty) b 1910 Irl, Bridget Abina b 1913 Irl, Mary Bridget b 1915 Irl
Mary (Higgins) Brennan died in Ireland during birth of a son Christopher.

James Brennan was a member of the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) and is known to have went to live in Liverpool circa 1922. with his 3 daughters . His late wifes sister name of Margaret Murphy is known to have lived at Southport Road Liverpool and probably assisted James with the 3 girls.
Daughter Mary Bridget b 1915 is known to have attended Mount Pleasant College in Liverpool & became a teacher.(She later returned & married in Ireland)
Nothing is known of James Brennan i.e residence, death etc in Liverpool.  There is a mention in family of Yew Tree Cemetery as being a possible burial place.
Any help in sourcing information on James Brennan would be appreciated by family. Thank you

There is a burial for a James Brennan, Ford Cemetery 21st January 1933.
James Brennan age 47, 126 Smithdown Road (this would have been a hospital at the time) grave 1542. There are others buried in the same grave over a couple of days, so I think this would be a public grave. Hope this is of some help to you, although maybe the only way to be sure would be to purchase the death certificate.
Regards.

Frances, here is the details of the death, found on FreeBMD.

Deaths Mar 1933   (>99%)
Brennan    James    47    Liverpool    8b   188

Information of where to send for certificate, this can be done on-line herein England, but I'm not sure how it works if out of the country.

The Liverpool Record Office would have electoral rolls and street directories. I should think the hospital record will have a 100 years cover, so not much chance of gaining anything there. May be an email to Liverpool Record Office William Brown Street, you will find this by doing a Google.

Frances, I have found below on Find My Past 1939 registers. Unfortunately I don't know how to add an attachment to this message.

7 Southport Road Margaret Murphy date of birth given as 17 Feb 1894, states she is married, unpaid domestic duties.
There are then three banked out, may be here children born after 1915.
Mary B Brennan (with her future married name as Stanton) date of birth given, could be 27 or 29 January 1915, states she is single, her occupation is School Teacher.

Regards
JeanC

Yes this info is correct re Mary B Brennan (she married Stanton)in ireland. Must have been living with aunt murphy. Appreciate all your help even though it is a little puzzling that the James Brennan death you found would have been buried in a public grave when he had family still one never knows the circumstances of thos times. Rgds Frances

Great to know it was the right information I had found 1939 register, fingers crossed the burial of James Brennan at Ford Cemetery proves to be the right one once you have the certificate. I would hate to think someone is spending out on wrong information I have given them. We come across all kinds of mysteries whilst researching our ancestors, adds to the fun of it. I'm pleased to have been of some help.
Good luck
