George Pembridge of Monmouth
« on: Friday 22 April 16 17:20 BST (UK) »
I am wondering if anyone can tell me what happened to George Henry Pembridge, born in Monmouth on 30.12.1891, who was a professional boxer in the years around World War I and was Welsh middleweight champion for a few months in 1920.
His last traced fight was in April 1923 and after that - silence! I have found no sign of a marriage, while the only death is registered in Bridgend in Oct-Dec 1967. This is probably the George H. Pembridge who was living in Porthcawl according to the 1939 Register, but he gave his birth date as 11.11.1892 and must presumably be a different person.
      Here's hoping!

Have you checked freebmd to establish if there are 2 births matching those birth dates?

Have you checked the 1901/ 1911 to see if there are 2 entries for that name matching the birthyears?

I see from an earlier post that there is no family history connection here

Carole, I have indeed found no mention of the "other" George Pembridge, either as a birth or in a census. But I have Monmouth George's birth certificate, so I am confident in his DoB, while the Porthcawl resident's DoB on the 1939 Register is very clear, so it would be strange if he was the same man.
The man whose death is registered in Bridgend is listed as being 76, which would only fit my George if he died and was registered immediately on New Year's Eve; on the other hand, the Porthcawl resident would have been 74 or 75, so there is clearly some confusion here. I had considered obtaining the Bridgend death certificate, but I am not sure that would confirm his identity anyway - if only death certs included the place of birth!
