unknown Italian ww2 pow in Nottingham quest

Hello, I have been having trouble with being able to find out who my real maternal grandfather is/was. My mother's mother had a brief affair with an Italian ww2 pow in Nottingham/shire in ca june 1946 around about 9-10 months before my mothers birth. The problem is that we do not have any name(s) of the Italian pow. I have tried to ask various agencies for lists of Italian pows in Nottingham but the British didn't keep very much/good records, and the Red Cross refuse to give any lists as they make it that we have to have a name, plus thye have there is the annoying 100 year records unreleased. Also i am still stuck in NZ on opposite side of the world which makes it very difficult to carry out local research. I may have narrowed down the camp that the pow had been held at (Woolaton http://www.freewebs.com/lifetradition/032839.jpg ) (though the affair was in 1946 after end of war).
Does anyone have any good ideas how i might possibly be able to find out the name? On another forum a person said i had to get my mothers birth certificate to find out the address where my grandmother was living when was born (she was born Laurel House, Underwood). But the problem is that there is uncertainty about where they were when she was conceived 9 months before because they had shifted sometime between dates either side, and also no guarantee that the certificate will give the address the family was living at (since certificates i have seen don't).
My grandmother and my commonly assumed grandfather are dead so i assume i am allowed to mention their names in case anyone knows anything?

Hi, keep an eye for updates from the ICRC.  WW2 POW records were meant to be going on line this year, but seen nothing to date.

If the search engine is the same layout as their WW1 records, you should be able to select Italian civilians in the drop down menu and then you'll just have to scroll through the names starting with 'A'

You're unlikely to know if he was a military or a civilian POW I suppose?

Strictly speaking,, he was no longer a pow at that date.

Italy became a neutral country at one point when Mussolini was deposed.

Thanks folks. As usual in my "life" it is all on hold now due to not able to do anything much in present situation* and condition (and also due to other things i need/want to do, and due to NZ vs UK location/distance, and due to poor UK pow records, and due to the p.o.w. records restrictions and also unfair genetic testing requirements imposed by authorities/elite, and due to extended "family" puritanical refusal to help, and due to my mothers lung cancer operation "5 years" recovery, etc*). When i was able and trying they hindered me and now i am not able (unless things change soon). But any info/ideas (or help) anyone has that may help are still appreciated.

A few years ago I visited  a place called Eden Camp, in Yorkshire I think.   It had been a POW   camp during WW2.    Try looking at their web site,  I suggest.

Not sure what you mean by "unfair genetic testing requirements imposed by authorities". You cannot demand genetic testing of another person (only a court could mandate that), but you can organise genetic testing of yourself. This may give you some matches which you could then follow up. There's a separate board here on RC which deals specifically with queries about genetic testing.

I was not demanding any testing of anyone.

I don't want to test myself because i am wary of giving info like that to the secret powers that be, and also because it is better with the 2 samples from my mother and (deceased) commonly assumed grandfather that we wanted to get tested (i mean better with the direct daughter and "father" than with me the grandchild).

My mother gave me the samples and i took them in to the dna diagnositics local Wellington/Hutt collection place but they messed me around saying i had to get signature of mother, refused to take the samples, had to be appointment, they said i had to send the samples direct to Auckland myself, etc. Then weeks/months after wards my mother got the lung cancer and no its on hold for "5 years getting over the lung operation" and "mother can't deal with it now [even merely signing a note and me calling by to pick up the samples again]". I went to the law centre asking if i had any rights to find out who my real grandfather is and they said sorry there are no such rights. In other words it was the DNA diagostics and the local collection place nurse (and now also my mother) who dictate to me.
I can't remember what else i may have also meant about unfair.

The red cross also stuffed me around with ww2 pow search. They refuse to give any lists of pows. They dictate that i had to have a name or else they refuse any info/help.

So i maintain that i am right not wrong to be offended by that there are unfair limitations placed by the powers that be.

Thanks Scouse, i'll add it to the list of camps. Though the family tradition is clear that it was in Nottingham[shire?] not Yorks.

The right camp is probably Wollaton park near Trowell going by the family history timeline i pieced together.
