1871 census: Godstone, Amelia Creasey
« on: Tuesday 19 July 05 23:17 BST (UK) »
Could someone please look-up Amelia Creasey, born 1857, Godstone in the 1871 census.
She is not with her parents, George and Amelia, who are in Felbridge. I would guess she is in Godstone, Lingfield or East Grinstead.

Many thanks,
Phil

Hello Tricia,

Thank you very much for the speedy reply.
That looks like her.
Although the family doesn't mean anything to me at the moment, the address rings a bell.

Many thanks,
Phil

Unfortunately on the 1861 census Mary Creasey born 1846 Godstone is a house servant for Joseph Simmonds and family living in Worth, Sussex.

You will have to ask for a lookup on the 1851 census for her to work out the relationship. Or send for the marriage cert which will give father's name.

Most likely she is Amelia's Aunt.

Sorry can't help any further.

Good Luck, Tricia :)

Hello again Tricia,

Thank you for the extra information.

I've had a look through my notes and the 1851 census and Mary Ann is Amelia's sister. It was a big family- twelve children at least spread over 25 years.

As to Spring Cottage; Amelia had an illegitimate son in 1874, who became my great-grandmother's second husband. His birth cert gives Spring Cottage as his place of birth.

Thank you for all your help,
Phil

Hello "Cousin"
Amelia Creasey is one of mine and you may be interested in sharing information with me.
I have most of my Creaseys (with various spellings) in the Crawley, Worth, COpthorne and East Grinstead area with one in Godstone b 1814.

Hello John,

This is an old thread  :)

I have just found your email address buried in my Address Book, back in the days when I used to correspond with Barbara etc. In fact, I think this thread had something to do with her.

I don't know if you have worked it out, but my great-grandmother was Eliza Skinner, who first married Charles Gatton and then, following his death, married Sydney Edward Creasey in 1898. My grandfather was Edgar James Gatton.

I must admit, I have neglected my own family history in the last couple of years. I've just had a look at my old Creasey tree and I think it needs a bit of sorting out. I obviously never updated it after getting Sydney's Birth Cert.

Thank you for this Phil. Please do revisit your Creasey family and if at all possible draw an up to date tree which you can share with me!
Regards
John
