Now I see that Tahitia has invited me to extend my interest in genealogy by taking an  MSc in Genealogical Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies! >:(

I've been sent this several times now...

I guess that it's in their interests to do the 'hard sell', - but it merely suceeds in putting me off!

Romilly.

It's a bit like the constant phone calls I get from the well known firms asking for my custom. I start to wonder what the problem is, if they are so desperate for business that they have to keep calling even though I've told them several times that there is nothing I need. Obviously people are not rushing to sign up for the MSc in Genealogical Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies!  ;D ;D

Just looking at a 2 week course entitled WW1 Heroism: Through Art and Film, aimed mainly at future University students, but I can see several older folk have enrolled.  It's slickly presented, full of information and requires some effort in participation, making students think and respond.

It would be a excellent model for Strathclyde to follow (though it does slip in an advert for studying at Leeds Uni).

This is interesting re the certificates. It looks as if a lot of people didn't think they actually showed much.

I was getting so many emails from FL that I have now unsubscribed!

Those certificates are really expensive aren't they.   around $60 Aus  + the statement for another lot of money.

I think that if you're 18... and putting together a CV for a Uni Application or whatever, then it's probably worth getting one.

However, that sort of scenario is long in the past for me!  ;D ;D ;D

I agree Romilly, it is probably worth it if you are still working, as it shows you are still keen on studying and improving yourself. That is as long as the person who reads your CV doesn't know that you can get the certificate of participation without really doing anything.  ;D

Oh how I agree with you Groom.

As far as I can see all the certificate proves is that you are gullible enough to fall for the hype.
