Yorkshire Parish Register Digitisation
« on: Friday 15 April 16 00:48 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone know what happened to findmypast's deal with the Yorkshire digitisation consortium, to digitise Yorkshire's parish registers(excluding WYAS records), I seem to remember this was announced back in 2013, and while findmypast has released some digitized records there is an awful lot that's still to be done.  I hope this isn't something that's been dropped by findmypast, as I've been really looking forward to seeing these parish registers in digital form.

I've similar concerns about the Borthwick Institutes plans to digitize it's probate collection, which again seems to have ground to a halt.

Anyone with any info please post, I for one would be very interested to know what's going on.

Cheers
George

From FindMyPast

https://blog.findmypast.co.uk/explore-phase-2-of-findmypasts-yorkshire-collection-1406500544.html

It's a year since phase two was released so hopefully the third (final?) phase will be released shortly.

Cheers
Jay

Not before time...East Yorkshire seems to lag behind in availability of records of any description.

From FindMyPast's email this morning

Coming soon

If you have have ancestors from Yorkshire, England, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for an exciting announcement in the coming weeks.

Hopefully it's the last batch of parish records were all waiting for!

I took out a sub via their US site (because it was a better deal at the time) and didn't receive that e-mail, but that's a lot more interesting than the e-mails I have been receiving.

I agree and hope to find where my relative George Hood, who married at Selby in July 1815 (Allegation & Bond 16 May 1815) and died at Selby on 18 September 1845, aged 60 (death registered on 19th September 1845 at Selby) was buried and also possibly where he was born?

I've been stuck (for 13 years).

I have the Selby Parish transcriptions (name searchable) 1500s to 1812, if I can help anyone, more info than on IGI, or what is already online!

So if you have M.I. books, discs, or Sept 1845 Burial Register pages, any information would be greatly appreciated?

Thank you
Kind regards, Mark

Hi Mark...The only George Hood buried in Selby Cemetery on FindMyPast was born in 1825 and died in 1862 age 37 years..He died at Bondgate, Selby and was a Farmer...It's not your man but could come in handy.

Hello Carol

Thanks, he was the Son (of my George), buried at 'Selby Cemetery', which opened about 1858 and FindMyPast must have this information from Selby Town Council, who have also been kind enough to email this burial, along with some other Hood burials including John and wife/ widow Sarah Hood in the council cemetery.

However, my George Hood (d. 18 Sept 1845, not to be confused with Army, George Hood dying/ buried at Leeds same month) and my 4 X Gt. Grandmother Sarah Hood, widow (dying Selby Nov 1879) and most of their childrens burials (died Selby) are still unaccounted.

Son William Hood dying 1870 at Selby (in front of mum Sarah also baptised Selby), was aged 54 and a Quaker, I have his Inquest report already. His burial information would only be of interest, if it gives possible Grand-parentage on the Hood side, or where his father George Hood (my 4 X G.G.) came from?

Son, James Hood died at Derby, but newspaper obits and Inquest in the press, give no Grandparentage.

Rootschatters and I have checked the actual Sept 1845 Selby Parish Abbey Church burial images, but sadly no George Hood, (now being nick-named George the Alien). Got the 18 Sept 1845 Selby Death Certificate, aged 60 for George Hood, but no known burial place.

George Hood dying Selby 1845 is not listed as a Quaker, in the Soc. of Friends, The Annual Monitor (downloadable for free, most being on internet archive) of Quaker Obits, (listed in the year / years following death).

Thanks for looking, a nice spirit.

PS, I have got the Selby Register (searchable) from 1500s to 1812 for the odd name search?

Take care, Mark
