Sarah Lomax Probate proved at Nottingham Registry 5 Sept 1865
« on: Tuesday 12 April 16 01:52 BST (UK) »
Hi , I am wondering if there is a way to access the will of Sarah Lomax? She died 5 July 1864 at Hereford Rd, Westbourne Grove, Bayswater, but her probate was proved at Nottingham Registry 5 Sept 1865. I believe she left some of her estate to a nephew, my ancestor.
It's possible that it could alternatively be (but less likely), Ann Lomax , died 18 March 1863 at 5 Claremont Place, Paddington Green. Will proved 30 March 1863 at Principle Registry

Would appreciate any help/advice on viewing these.
Thankyou

Hi,

I go to Nottingham Archives most weeks and can look in the books they have called office copies of Will's proved in Nottingham I cannot remember off hand what dates they cover but will have a look for you when I next go and if its not to long can copy it out for you.

Otherwise you can buy a copy of the Will's from this site:

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills.

Thankyou, that would be wonderful! Her full death details are
Sarah Lomax
DOD: 5 July 1864 at 30 Hereford Rd, Westbourne Grove, Bayswater, Middlesex
Probate: 5 September 1865 Nottingham Registry.

I believe that she left money in her estate to my Great Grandfather, John Watson (or a close relative of his). John was born in England in 1818, and migrated to Australia in the 1850's. I am in Australia. I'm not yet 100% positive that it is her, but the dates match, he inherited from a Lomax (Sarah's maiden name is Watson) and he had to return from Australia to Birmingham c 1865 to collect the inheritance.
Thankyou for looking- if it is too long to copy, and you think that I have the right person, I'll order it.
Thankyou again for your help

Thankyou! You have been most helpful. That is the family-Nephews George Watson, Henry Watson, John Watson and Edward Watson are the people I am looking for, particularly John, my direct ancestor. Also Ellen Watson. There are times when research falls into place and this is one - so thrilled with this find.
John returned to England to collect his share and , on return to Australia, purchased land and built four homes in Balmain. He also set up a ferry business, transporting passengers to the city and around the Balmain area.
Descendants all know that there was an Aunt Lomax, and one of his grandchildren was christened 'Lomax'.Australian family have visited Gainsborough, where my John was born and not found him. But we were searching in the wrong location. His father moved the family to London.
Is the only way to get to see the will, via the 30 day view option? Do you know if it is possible to purchase a photo copy?
Kindest regards JH

Hi,

I'm always glad to help.  The 30 days view option means you have 30 days to download the Will and save it to your computer so you will always have it, click on the help tab at the top of the search page which explains how it works.
The only other way is to post in a search form which you can download form the site (again though the help tab and will cost the same as ordering online) but as you are in Australia I think the on line ordering would be best.

In the appropriate year type in the surname and date of death - it's on the fourtrh page.
