Yesterday purely by accident I came across a posting by Rosie Lewis, who was researching her Great Grandfather John Price. However this posting was dated 2007. Until recently my fathers family was a mystery as he ran away from home at the age of 14yrs to the South Wales Valleys. A friend of mine spent considerable time researching my fathers history and discovered that my father was the son of John Price who s wife was Eleanor and they had 7 children:- Margaret 1868, John Thomas 1871, Edward 1873, Allison, 1875, Margaret Jane 1878, James (my father) 1880, and Ellis 1886. When his wife died he married Mary Evans and had further children:- Mary Elizabeth 1889, Catherine Blodwen 1891, David 1893, Evan 1895, Edward 1898, Ethel 1900, Agnes 1900, and there is evidence of 5 other children. If anyone has any information regarding these families I would be very interested to know about it.

Hi,
Been away and just seen your post. So glad you posted on here, I was aware of James but like you could not find a trace of him anywhere. So many blacksmiths in the Price/Pryce family!
I am the Great Granddaughter of John Price. His Daughter Catherine was my Grandmother, she talked so fondly about John which set off my interest in him.
He had a few more Children with Mary Evans (My Great Grandmother) I have found twelve so far.
I know quite a lot about him and his family now if you need any more information. There are still a few blanks left to fill, I have spent many many hours researching him and have gathered quite a bit of info.
Haven't been on this site for ages but luckily I received a personal e mail to tell me you had posted on a thread I started.
All the Best

Hi Rosie, It was nice to get a reply from you. Any further information you have I would be grateful to receive it. As I mentioned my father James ran away from home when he was 14years and came to South Wales, and worked for all his life at Oakdale Colliery. He worked until he was 75 and died at the age of 77 when I was 15 yrs of age. He always listened to radio programmes in welsh. As a child I remember him saying that his sister was an organist in a Cathederal somewhere in North Wales. He always listened to music on the radio and did say that a brother of his was a music composer, however I don,t know whether this is true or not. My father never had a birthday as far as I recall as neither he nor anyone else knew of his date of birth. It is really good to know where my father originated from and my wife and I will be visiting Meifod in the summer and were wondering if Trout Cottage still exists. Regards, Gerald.

Hi Gerald,
I will gather as much info as I can and send you a private message on here.
I have a copy of a photo of John Price which I tried to send you via private message but I couldn't seem to attach and send it on here, I am not that brilliant with technology so will try again tomorrow. It may even be Friday as I need to gather as much information as I can to send you and check through old e mails that I have received over the years from various descendants of John.
Seems like we are from a very musically gifted family!  John Price's Brother  was a composer Thomas Maldwyn Price, then Thomas' s Son Richard Maldwyn Price followed in his footsteps and there is a memorial to him in Welshpool church where he played the organ. They are both mentioned in Welsh Biography Online if you look it up.
Will be in touch very soon
All the Best
Rosie

By the way we did try to find Trout Cottage without much luck but we didn't have much time. There is a cottage there called Trout but it looked too modern. Maybe the original was pulled down and they built a new one and kept the name?

Hi Rosie, Thank you for all the additional information regarding our family, I am really enjoying getting to know all about them. I look forward to reading any further information you may have and in particular in seeing the photograph of my grandfather John Price if you are able to do that.
Kind regards, Gerald.
