Lucke family of Rotherfield, Sussex

Just thought I would have a look at the PCC wills on Ancestry to see if there is anything which might be helpful.  There a couple from Mayfield which might be worth looking at.

The first John Lucke who died in 1549 led me on a google search for a transcription and I came up with this blog, which might be useful, then again it might not but just in case you haven't seen it and it might lead you to a useful contact if nothing else.

1642 July - John Lucke surrendered 13a of land called Margreede (Magreed in Broad Oak?)

Glad to be able to send this. Possibly all distant branches, rather than direct. I happened to be in the Sussex Family History Group Research room when I saw your query. Somebody has done extensive research into the Lucke family and deposited all the notes at East Sussex Archives (Sussex family history group files).

There's a will for Thomas Lucke, Rotherfield 1608, husbandman. Maybe a cousin from some later generations. If it's possible to trace his line back you may get some more clues. I can try to find his will on my next visit to the archives.

As her baptism probably predates 1534, you may not find her details.  But if you can link her to a local 'manorial roll' you may find more info. 

There's plenty of info on her descendants!

Just checked Magdalin marriage date again.. 1584 so her baptism would be after 1534 so good chance her details were missed in transcription! (or illegible).

I'm the owner of the blog mentioned in the last post. I'm researching the Lucke family of Mayfield, as my 12 x great grandmother was Alice Lucke, daughter of Richard Lucke of Mayfield. She married Magnus Fowle, son of Gabriel Fowle of Southover. Richard had a brother Thomas who died in 1552, and I suspect that John Lucke who died in 1549 was another brother.
