Robinsons in Ugglebarnby
« on: Wednesday 06 April 16 16:25 BST (UK) »
The 1851 census shows Susannah, unmarried, aged 20, living with her father Robert Robinson, and sister-in-law Hannah aged 30, (Hannah was already a widow with a 2 year old daughter). Her father Robert is 67 years old and was born in Ugglebarnby. This gives him a birth date around 1784, and Susannah a birth date around 1831. Robert was a stonemason.
Despite lots of searching,
*I have failed to find birth or baptisms for Susannah's 2 brothers, Robert b. 1829 and William b. 1834, (dates from census).
* I have yet to find which older Robinson son, the widowed Hannah had married. Hannah was born in Newcastle area, and her dead husband was a seaman. As her child, Ann Elizabeth, was born about 1849, presumably she was widowed between 1848 and the 1851 census.
* I have a possible marriage for the father, There is a record of marriage banns in April 1810, in the parish of Sneaton, for a Robert Robinson and a Sarah Ezart. They married on April 30th. If this is a correct marriage for Robert snr., there could be many undiscovered children!
Any help with above queries gratefully received!
Maggie

I wonder if Hannah and ? Robinson were married in her home area as their daughter was born in Stockton Durham.

Then after she was widowed she came to be with the Robinson family.

Yes that seems a possibility, but not yet found any likely marriage. Think I still need the names of older sons for Robert , as searches for a Robinson marrying a Hannah have so far been fruitless!

William Robinson was baptised 15 Sep 1833 at Ugglebarnby, the son of Robert, a farmer, and Ann

I haven't found a baptism for Robert yet but the National Archives has a Merchant Seaman record for a Robert Robinson of Ugglebarnby b 1829 on what looks like the ship Nina, coming "home" to Sunderland in 1856.  Presumably he cannot have been the husband of Hannah if she was widowed by 1851, but I see that she describes herself as a Sailors Wife, not widow, so perhaps the enumerator made an error in saying she was widowed rather than married?

There is also a Merchant Seaman record for Wm Robinson of Ugglebarnby but no dates for that one, other than the record was 1845.

In 1861 there is an Esther Margaret Robinson, Sailor's Wife living in Ugglebarnby with her mother & brother, Margaret & Samuel Sleightholm.   Esther Margaret Sleightholm married William Robinson in 1859.

Added: Forgot to say, Susannah was baptised as Susan 05 Dec 1830, d/o Robert, a farmer, and Ann
