Birth certificate
« on: Wednesday 06 April 16 11:57 BST (UK) »
I am new to this site and very desperate. My daughter was born in Harare Zimbabwe in December 1981. Her Father had been arrested about a week or so before her birth for defacing Mugabe's portrait at his place of employment. Drinks after work and just fooling around, was nothing more than that. Anyway, because of this the Government refused to recognise my daughters birth. Long story short my in-laws paid a lot of money to at least get the birth certificate issued. When my daughter was 2 weeks old we left Zimbabwe for South Africa as my husband was deported to SA. My daughter has lost her birth certificate and is not able to get her ID renewed and because of that she cannot even get her drivers licence or bank account renewed. she also cannot get a Passport. she has been trying to get this resolved for about 6 years now. She is in a terrible situation. According to one of the people she asked to assist her he said she is not on the register. This is not possible. Please if anyone can help me out there.

What about citizenship documents? has she contacted the passport office? the situation for a first-time passport and renewal of previous one might vary (also a difference if a previous has already expired)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

That is an awful predicament for your daughter!

Do you think it might be worth trying your local Justice of the Peace?

Oops - I just looked at the other post, and then put the reply to this message on that board in error.

Copy and paste!

Not sure if that would help her JB as it applies to South Africa not Zimbabwe ;)

You don't say what country you are in, but have you tried your local Zimbabwean Embassy.  Most Embassies provide these type of services for ordering copies of documents?

It seems as if there have been several attempts by chatters here offering advice.

However, Rootschat is a forum for researching our ancestors and whilst people here are trying to help, we can only give general advice not specifically solve legal matters. I do not want to build up anybody's hope of a resolution to this situation.

At the time of my reply, the topic has been online for just under 3 hours.

There is little time delay between the UK and contries in the south of Africa so some chatters may be at work and not able to reply until later.
