Help needed with interpreting British Army Service Record
« on: Monday 04 April 16 11:38 BST (UK) »
I am researching the WWII service of my Uncle Edward Patrick Carthy and would appreciate help and further information regarding the following entries in his Army service record:-

23 24 25 Lab. Co. RASC Strensall (Pte.) 5/9/39
Posted to No.23 Depot Lab.Co. York (Promoted Cpl.) 7/9/39
Attached No.2 Centre AMPC Caistor 27/10/39

I have found the following info on the web that may be relevant....
In September 1939, a number of infantry and cavalry reservists were formed into Works Labour Companies. These, in October 1939 became the Auxiliary Military Pioneer Corps (AMPC), and a Labour Directorate was created to control labour matters. On 22 November 1940 the name was changed from the AMPC to the Pioneer Corps.

Posted 2/4 Btn. KOYLI (Cpl.) 13/3/40
Posted 50th. H.B. (Cpl.) 13/7/40

Does the above line refer to the 50th (Holding Btn). East Yorkshire Regiment?  Shortly afterwards he was posted to 1/4 Btn. KOYLI with whom he served for the remainder of the war, rising to the rank of CSM.

Many thanks!

It does kind of look like it, yes. It's mentioned near the end of the list found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_York_and_Lancaster_Regiment_battalions
