Information offered - Lappage family - Copford/Stanway
« on: Tuesday 19 July 05 12:26 BST (UK) »
I recently visited the ERO and have the following information from the Parish Registers of St Michael and All Angels at Copford for the Lappage family.

As deaths are sometimes difficult to verify, I thought they might be of use to someone else.

The following are all burials:

13 Jan 1806 - Jane
09 May 1763 - Damon
30 Jan 1767 - Rebekah
23 Oct 1769 - Daniel
14 May 1775 - Sarah
20 Nov 1776 - Daniel
25 Jul 1777 - Joseph
07 Jun 1778 - Thomas
01 Jun 1783 - Judah (I have seen this elsewhere as Judith)
01 Nov 1784 - Rebecca

Also baptisms - at Stanway -  of the children of John Lappage and Mary Springet:

Mary - 18 Jul 1756
John - 31 Mar 1765
William - 04 Mar 1769

This list is not exhaustive, I believe.  There was another William who was older than Mary but who evidently died quite young, for example.

I have further information on the Lappage family should anyone want it.

Hi my name is Rozanne, i am looking for info on a Rachel Lappage born 18 May 1814 in Essex, married on the 1 May 1835 in Shoreditch then immigrated to New Zealand in 1851. I want to find out her parents and if she had siblings.

Sorry, I am unable to help.  A couple of Rebeccas but no Rachels, I'm afraid.

There is a branch of the family I am researching for which I have, as yet, found no link.  They do living in Colchester whereas almost all of mine come from the area to the south around Copford and Birch.  Only a few miles but a world away in genealogy terms!

There is, I believe, just one root family with lots of branches.  Sooner or later the link will become clear.  Currently, I am awaiting the results of enquiries from the Essex Registry Office on the parish registers of St Albrights church in Stanway.  I'm hoping this will clarify quite a few questions so stay in touch.

Kind regards - Sue
