As you know - there are an awful lot of Jones in Wales so we need a lot more info.

Freebmd shows that Mary Ann married Thomas Jones in 1869 Merthyr Tydfil - so when and where was Elizabeth born?

The 1871 and 1881 censuses are free to search here which will give details of other children born to them

thanks, found mary ann and Thomas jones from 1871 census but Elizabeth wasn't living with them. think Elizabeth was born before they married so think about 1867/68.  on mary anns  funeral report in 1914 Elizabeth was morgan nee jones. I cannot find out where Thomas jones was born or his parents.

Isn't his birthplace shown on the 1871/1881 entries?

A copy of the 1869 marriage cert should give you his fathers name.   If Elizabeth was born as Jones - she would be with them in 1871.  Are you sure about her birthyear?

Have you looked for them on the 1881 census?

thank you for your help, yes on the census it says llanhamlach but the only Thomas jones on 1851 census says lodger so don't know if that's him. will his parents names be on the marriage certificate?  no Elizabeth is not living with them at all from 1871 to 1911.  ??

Only fathers names and occupations are shown on English/Welsh marriage certs plus names of witnesses

Does the report actually refer to her as Mary Ann's daughter?
 
You say Mary Ann only died in 1914 and you say

no Elizabeth is not living with them at all from 1871 to 1911.

This makes me wonder if she was their daughter

Is this the 1871 entry you are referring to?    If not - please post full details of the 1871 entry you found.

If it is the same entry - then you appear to have the wrong Thomas & Mary

yes it states Elizabeth {daughter} , no from 1871 they lived in fochriw. think it comes under gelligaer, sorry cannot copy the census as in middle of moving house and packed things away. in 1871 they had a son rees aged 3 months, later they had a son Thomas,daughter mary , cannot remember the others off hand but lived in fochriw until their deaths. one funeral report has Elizabeth jones(daughter) dyffryn mawr,  then next report has Elizabeth morgan (daughter) gilwern. Elizabeth has got me baffeled .

Your opening post says

which is in Carmarthenshire
