For what it is worth (from a Brit), I'd say the pic posted by manawakian and the man in the centre of the Facebook photo are surely the same man.

Certainly looks like my man. Must say though, I thought he was Canadian.

The hat is (perhaps unkindly) called the "lemon squeezer", check out pics of New Zealand soldiers.
