On the 1911 census, there is a John Spark Kirkland at 234 Langlands Road, Govan. The census reads like this:
James Kirkland, aged 43, Head.
John Spark Kirkland, aged 22, Nephew.
John Kirkland Buchanan, aged 16 [The name Buchanan is badly written, difficult to make out and may be something other than Buchanan, so there is a mystery here]
Henry Pierce White, 23, Lodger.
Now, John Spark Kirkland was either an Engineer at the shipyards, or a Shipping Clerk at the shipyards. The entries here are unclear as to whether they refer to the person above or below, because they are written halfway between the two, if you see what I mean.
There is a Mary Jane Kirkland who died July 5th 1912. ...She was married to John Kirkland, a Coal Miner, and she died aged 23 at Meadowhead Road, Wishaw. Her parents were: James Campbell, Coal Miner and Catherine Boyle (deceased). The informant for the death of Mary Jane Kirkland was John Kirkland, Widower.
So, if I am on the right track, John Kirkland, her husband, was still alive in July 1912 when Mary Jane died. I suggest that you look for John Kirkland's death at Wishaw, Lanarkshire sometime after 1912.
Hope this helps you out a bit.
