Have you put that on the FL site KG, people there might be interested and it will stop them trying to access the site?

Was Mocavo a free site, if so, presumably their records will only be available to people who have a subscription to FindMyPast?

Your Mocavo account details will automatically transfer to Findmypast, where we’ll give you a 30 day trial, completely free.

It's already been noted by somebody else?  See 2.11

I also posted this to the FutureLearn thread - as people there were discussing Mocavo.
But Trystan removed it from there, and combined it with this thread? ;D

As part of our ‘Free Forever’ promise, Mocavo subscribers will continue to enjoy free access to all of the same records that were previously published for free on Mocavo. We will be transferring your account over to Findmypast soon so stay tuned for updates.

I remember that notice earlier in the year, which seems to be quite genuine.  However, there is a paid-for aspect to Mocavo, with the offer of a new similar-price sub to FindMyPast.  So I wonder how hard FindMyPast will be advertising the free records that they hold - similar to the 1881 census (I don't notice either of the 2 main sites bring these free records to the forefront of their adverts).

I think that it will not be long before the "free forever" sections and the paid for sections become so integrated with existing records that the free aspect will be lost in the mists of time.  I suspect that new researchers, and some older ones, will simply assume that they have to subscribe to the site to access the records, beyond indexes.  I hope I'm wrong.

Since I've learned of this closure (never having heard of them before) I've put in one of my surname searches, and not really come up with anything in the UK.  Yes, I've gained a few entries about someone who went to South Africa back in 1819 from manuscript images, and a descendant of that person in WW2.  Other than that I've seen a couple of marriage entries in York.  So I'm not sure how useful this site was  :-\  Perhaps it's me!!   ;D ;D :o
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
