Historic Chelteham Business Directoies 1830 thru 1840
« on: Sunday 20 March 16 17:22 GMT (UK) »
My Great x3 Grandfather was a Butcher: Baker: Grocer and Shopkeeper in Cheltenham possibly Tewkesbury Road within this period. I am looking for copies or transcript entries in old Cheltenham Directories.  Can anyone please help?  Please reply by PM. Thank you

Try asking the question in the "Days Gone By In Cheltenham" group on Facebook. There are some very helpful people there who have access to old trade directories and like a genealogical challenge.

Hi
The University of Leicester has an online searchable collection of historical directories.
http://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/cdm/map/collection/p16445coll4

I searched in the 1842 for Tewkesbury Rd Chelt and only found one entry, by trade a Maltster.
As you aren't certain about the road perhaps a trade search or name searchh would be more forthcoming.
Malmesbury- Bishop.
Gloucestershire-Bishop,Hicks,Higgs,Hill,Hooper,Hopkins,Pitcher,Robertson,Stinton,Terret,Woodruff.
Worcestershire-Stinton.
Devon- Borrough or Burrow.

Hi, Sorry I cannot believe I omitted the name of my Great x3 Grandfather which is Edward Lane.

It may not have been Tewkesbury Road.

I now believe he was a Butcher, Baker, Grocer and Shopkeeper in Cheltenham between 1925 and 1950.
Thank you for your continued interest.
