Henry Lane Cheltenham
« on: Sunday 20 March 16 17:15 GMT (UK) »
Hello Cheltenham, I have all but completed my family history from 1700 with one exception that is my Great Uncle named above. He was born in Cheltenham 1828 and Christened there on 6th July 1828. In 1841 he was residing at Waterloo Road Cheltenham with his parents Edward and Mary Maria Lane and siblings.  I do not know for sure if he married and I cannot locate a register of any marriage where his father is shown to be Edward Lane a Grocer/Butcher/Baker or Shopkeeper. The timeline is 1841 to 1848> at which Edward and Mary Maria moved from Cheltenham.  I would be most grateful for any help you can offer. I would prefer a PM if possible.

Are you saying that Henry Lane (b 1828) married between the ages of 13 (as he  was in 1841) and 20 (as he was in 1848)?

Sorry to have confused you!  Thanks for your prompt reply. I lost track of Henry from 1841 when he was as you say 13 and residing with his parents.  He did not move with his parents after 1841 so presumably stayed in Cheltenham. I was thinking that if his father had not attended the wedding this would not help my search. But of course if he had died before Henry's wedding he would be shown as Edward Lane deceased. I would guess Henry probably married 1848> being of age.

I see that no birthdate was noted on Henry's 1828 baptism.

He was aged 14 in the 1841 census (6 June 1841) - if accurate that would put his birthdate between 7 June 1826 and 6 June 1827.

Beware of assuming that Edward would be recorded as deceased had he died by the time Henry married (if he did marry).  That is not necessarily the case at all.
