I have finally helped someone!!
« on: Saturday 19 March 16 17:01 GMT (UK) »
I am over the moon.  I re-homed my first Carte de Visite!  I also got a lovely mail back when it was received.  The lady in question was so grateful and it gave me a warm glow inside. I was also able to give her a bit more info because of research I had done.

My faith in humanity is restored.  I am on a mission to try and re-home more!  However means a lot of research but it will be fun.

Those 2 little words "Thank You" made it all worthwhile. Helen,  if by any chance you are  a Rootschatter and see this hope you not blushing.

Thanks to you too!!!  Just had to share with you all because there have been so many discussions on the subject of people saying or not saying  those 2 magic words.  myself have been stung by rellies contacting me and me  giving too much, the giving nothing and  then being dropped like a hot brick without a simple Thanks Jane :'(

I think a lot of us can relate to that in our journey of genealogy.   It is better just to give the bones of the skeleton at first. ;D

Yep kiwi spot on! I give too much. I have found 6 really close rellies, even met 3. I gave far too much, ain't hindsight a wonderful thing. I have tried to keep in touch but to no avail. They got what they wanted, I got nothing. Just a lot of anger. I feel I was used and sadly it was down to me. I would not have behaved the same way. All I think now is I am the  better person, I don't need them, doing ok without them. This is sad, if I find any more rellies I really don't think I will be bothered. Before everyone gets up in arms, I know you may not agree, but it is how I feel. Wrong or right, my choice

If they are on here and reading this hope it makes them think, guys you used me!!!

Jane.

I agree KHP,  take it slowly until you are sure that they are as keen as you are, better not to overwhelm them with information.

Jane,

There have been threads on this before from memory about people just taking the information and giving nothing back.

To me these are people that don't want to do the hard yards, just have all the information fall into their hands.

Yep. Remember threads well! Such a shame this happens. But.sad for others that are genuine. I am afraid I am not interested any more. The family I have cause enough grief, why add to it, lol!
