Can I store my family tree on an Ipad?
« on: Saturday 19 March 16 08:39 GMT (UK) »
Can I store my family tree on an Ipad? I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been asked if I would like an I Pad for my birthday. Would I be able to use it for storing my family history research and tree on which is currently on a computer.
Does anybody else use one and if so what tree software do you use?

There are a number of programs or apps the could be used on an Ipad for family history
take a look at

I have Family Historian 4 on my desktop PC, and all files were transferred to my ipad mini.

I am non technical and this was done for me, but I don't think it is difficult.

By the way, I can recommend the ipad mini - it is large enough to easily view everything you want to, but small enough to be portable - good for travel etc.  :)

I use Roots Magic and carry a copy on my iPad, it can also be run on any computer from a memory stick, so handy to take when travelling.

Thank you all for your comments.
I will read up on the softwear to decide which one will suit our tree.

To transfer files from your computer to IPad you can install Dropbox, copy your files to that. Install the Dropbox app to your iPad then the files will be there for you. Depending on your eyesight of course but I prefer the larger iPad rather than the mini.

Hi Ruskie, did you install FH on your ipad as well as a computer - with one licence?

Edited: have had a look at the FHUG forum, thanks :)

Yes, I don't know how it was done (as it was done for me), but definitely only one licence. :)

Thanks Ruskie, it sounds a bit too complicated for me so I'll leave it for now.
