Were you looking at UK records?

I seem to remember that colour/race applied to US records?

Is this a submitted record on the IGI?

I believe that US census records asked what race (or colour, I can't recall) a person was - perhaps other records did too.

It was just something they did back in the day. I don't think it is worth getting up in arms about.

Its on UK search..and the Quaker meeting is UK.....but "race" as in "colour of skin" only occurs on US records from much later than this. I'm objecting to stating "facts" that are not facts at all, are completely irrelevant etc. And someone put that there...why??

It isnt back in the day....its what somebody has added wrongly ( because they do not know what race she was) now.

Are you using .com or .co.uk?  I've looked on .co.uk for this entry and there is no mention whatsoever, either in the transcription or the image for "gender" or "race" - Liverpool Quaker Registers.  Nor in the 1538-1991 Select Deaths and Burials (from LDS).  Nor in the England and Wales, Quaker Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths Register.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

It appears to be a standard index card used by FamilySearch.

Looks like there are two versions of the Family Search entry - film no: 583999 (with) and 584012 (without).

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
