The Mannix Family Newington.
« on: Wednesday 16 March 16 12:23 GMT (UK) »
I'm having problems finding Ellen Mannix before her marriage to Charles John Allwood on 14 Nov 1874 at Emmanuel, Camberwell.

I have her baptism on 4 Dec 1852  at Walworth St Peter where her father is given as Michael Mannix a plasterer.

I think I've found the Mannix family, before her birth, in the 1851 census in Islington. If correct her father was born abt 1817 in Ireland and is a plasterer and her mother Mary abt 1818 in Lambeth. That fits with the marriage I have for Michael Mannix (plasterer) and Mary Mason on 2nd November 1841. Other children in 1851 were John 1842 Lambeth: Joseph 1843 Walworth:Mary 1848 Lambeth and Jane 1850 Islington. ( names fit as Michael's father was called John and Mary's father was called Joseph)

I can't find the family in 1861 or 1871.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Jan

This may not help but the last address I can see for them is Lorrimore St in Newington in Feb 1858 when their daughter Catherine was baptised :-\

Thank you, those are worth following up.

I think I've found Michael and Mary with son John aged 2 months in 1841. It looks as if he was born before their marriage and they were living together, the name has been transcribed as Mannach and Michael as Michel.

They seem to have gone from there by 1861!

Did Mary Mannix remarry in 1860 to John Pope?
If so, you could try looking for Ellen as Pope, is a possibility in Newington in 1861.

Thank you, that looks a distinct possibility, as Michael and Mary Mannix had daughters Elizabeth and Catherine that fit the ages of the two other children on the 1861 census. There is a death of a Michael Mannix in Holborn in 1858.
