Can anyone see the Parish Record of this Marriage please? (WILSON)
« on: Wednesday 16 March 16 09:11 GMT (UK) »

I've posted too many times on my elusive Grandfather William James Wilson (1860 - 1937) to be able to gather up all the threads in one go(!)

However, I am just trying to rule this chap out before ordering yet another (wrong) Birth Cert...

There is a James William Wilson, Born Manchester, 3rd Quarter of 1859, Volume 8D Page 497. There is a Marriage in Manchester in 1904 for a James William Wilson to an Annie Mason. I'm wondering if this is the same man, but I can't see a Parish Record of the Marriage. (Although I can see one for my Grandfather William James Wilson Marrying my Grandmother Margaret Rees in Swansea in 1893).

Can anyone on here see that 1904 Wilson Marriage in Manchester?

Cheers, Romilly.

Many thanks for that KarenLee.

I don't think that he was the same chap as the 1859 Manchester Birth... as this one was 26yrs in 1904... & that one would have been 45yrs.

I have my Grandfather William James Wilson on the 1901 and 1911 Censuses in Swansea, and on both he gives his place of Birth as 'Manchester, Lancs'. I can't pin down a definate Birth or Baptism for him in 1860/'61 in Manchester, and have ordered quite a few Birth Certs which haven't fitted with the info he gives on his Marriage Cert... (Namely, 'Father: William Wilson (Deceased) Occupation: Mason'.)

I suppose there is a possibility that he transposed the Christian names... in which case the 1859 Birth Cert for James William Wilson might be worth ordering? Unfortunately I can't see a Baptismal Entry for that one... I wonder if that was a Non Conformist one too?

Romilly.

Many thanks for looking Radcliff,

I'm pretty certain that I've looked at this family before, but couldn't find them with a son William James Wilson, Born circa 1860...

I have an (unverified) belief that William James Wilson's Mother might have been an 'Alice' though... (This is based on the fact that his third son was initially Registered, (in 1897) as 'Alice Rencella Wilson'... his gender and name were ammended 3 months later as a 'Clerical Error'!!)

This Brickwall has been sending me (literally) round in circles for years now...:-(((

The James William WILSON born in 1859 is shown on lancashirebmd as being born in Ancoats, mother's maiden name WILSON. So either a Wilson married a Wilson (there are a few) or illegitimate.
SKINNER - Manchester/Newark, Notts
WILSON, MORRIS, LARKIN, CURLEY, McCLUSKEY, KELLY - Manchester
McDERMOTT - Roscommon, Ireland
BALLAM - Wigan/Manchester/Ashton

Many thanks for looking Amram.

I agree, - most likely to be illegitimate. I have long suspected that faced with his prospective Wife's Swansea relatives, my Grandfather made up the 'Father: William Wilson (Deceased) Occupation: Mason' info that he gives on his Marriage Cert!

However, it's all that I had to go on... no one left alive to ask:-(

I should add that my late Father, (son of William James Wilson) was 30yrs older than my Mother, and Died when I was 5, and so no details about the Paternal line were passed on. I've ordered quite a few 'wrong' Birth Certs, and so am just trying to scout around a tad before ordering any more...
