I have looked on 1939 register where she should be Mrs Williams  if it is her but she doesn't seem to be jumping out.

I looked too, then realized that she was born 1917 so has probably been blanked out.

I have possibly got him on the 1911 census return with his brother Robert?  Just to add to the confusion he is a boarder and birth place not known!

A possible death for Robert in Bolton Mar quarter 1933 aged 66 & Mary Ellen Dec quarter 1948 aged 67 - would be wonderfully helpful if she was described as widow of Robert & the informant was her son Richard

The schools admission registers on FindMyPast have the info re Percy.

I can't see Mary Ellen in 1939 but the other Robert and Mary E are there. He is a school teacher.
Obviously he is not the Robert who died 1933 but I suppose the Mary Ellen death could be this one

Thanks for all this.  I have just taken out a months subscription for findmypast so will have a look at that heywood.

And I think I am going to risk ordering the death cert for Mary Ellen and fingers crossed it turns out just as you described Jomot  ;-)

I have just ordered the death cert online. I am going away next week so it will be a couple of weeks before we are all put out of our misery.
