Found Frans Edvard's father Gustaf's Will/Inventory. He died 1 Jan 1828, 40 years old.

It lists all the beneficiaries including his children:

Casper Gustaf Edler born 6 Dec 1812
Christina Charlotta Edler born 2 Dec 1817
Bernhardina Edler born 22 Apr 1820
Catharina Lovisa Edler born 1 Mar 1824

I found records of 2 of Gustaf and Margaretha's children Catharina and Bernhardina as being given up for adoption after the death of their father. These records can be found here:
http://digitalastadsarkivet.stockholm.se/Allmbarnhus/Allmbarnhusepi7.aspx

Just write Edler in "efternamn" and you will get 3 hits. Just download them.

The other one is Carl Mauritz who was also adopted in 1848.

Hi Ian
You have given me enormous assistance. Thank you. I would be very interested in any records you can send me. I will need to spend some time now trying to piece the story together.
Thanks
Carol

I have managed to trace most of the family members. If you need more just ask.

Also:
If you write Edler in "lastname" you will see Maria Lovisa and Christina (Kristina) Charlotta listed a number of times. These are census records from Stockholm between 1878-1926.

Hi Ian
Thank you so much for all your assistance. I am just starting to go through the data you have shared with me. I am busy doing some translating through google at the moment to make sense of the headings in the documents. Can you tell me how far back the Swedish records go? Is there a way of me accessing them on line as when I go into the site it only gives me the volume or microfische no but not much in the way of details. I have not been able to see any of the original documents before.
Your research has given me a gold mine of information, most of which I had been looking for over the last three years.
Hope you have a wonderful Easter celebration and thank you again.
Carol

Cheers Carol.
All parishes started at different times. In Skeppsholm Parish for example the marriage books started in 1712, the births started in 1714 and the "census books" started in 1770. So if the Edlers came from there then we should be able to get that far back...... hopefully!
