Grimsby
« on: Thursday 10 March 16 12:26 GMT (UK) »
A bit of a cheek but I don't suppose anyone has access to any Grimsby newspapers for the date 2nd June 1940.  I am trying to find if there was a death notice for Thomas Sutherland, of 3 Bridge Street South, Grimsby, who died on 2nd June 1940.  His wife was Beatrice(Betsy), but I wanted to know if it mentioned any sons/daughters.  Many thanks

Visited the library today.  I could not find any obituary notices in the local papers.
However from the electoral rolls between 1925 and 1939, Thomas and Beatrice Sutherland lived at No 3 Bridge street south.  Between 1925 and 1930 there is also an Albert Sutherland listed.   By Alberts name in 1925 is a small a possibly suggesting he his of age to vote.
The record of the burial in Scartho Road Cemetery, Grimsby, on the 5th June, 1940 shows Thomas as 72 years and an engineer.
I cannot find any record yet of Beatrice's death in the records at the library.   Aklthough Thomas's grave is shown as 7ft suggesting that it was a double grave and intended that Beatrice should have been buried with him.

I hope that helps

Thank you so much for doing that for me, I do appreciate it.  After Thomas died, Beatrices brother took her back to Peterhead, where she died in 1953.  Not sure who Albert is, but will now have to dig a bit more for him.  It is possible he was born in Scotland. Once again thank you for all your hard work.

I have now found on ancestry.co.uk a Albert Osmond Sutherland, died in 1976 in Grimsby, so not sure if he is the son of the late Thomas Sutherland who died in Grimsby in1940.  Could not find the birth of a Albert Osmond Sutherland in England.  Nor a marriage. Any help would be appreciated.
