William Adams mystery marriage in india
« on: Tuesday 08 March 16 21:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
Hopefully someone out there will have some clues to a mystery.

I have a birth certificate for William Herbert Adams born 10th August 1896, in Glasgow  His mother is Agnes Adams and his father is William Adams.  They were married in Belfast in 1889.  However this birth certificate has a marriage in India in 1877, this marriage cant be to Agnes as she would only have been about 4 years old.  Later children have the correct marriage date on the birth certificates.

Any ideas about the India marriage?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

Lynda

Have you found him in any census before 1899, what does that give as his occupation?

What I know is that William was born in Ireland in 1852, this is from census information.  He married my great grandmother Agnes Adams <yes they have the same surname) - speculation In the family is that they may have been related, in 1889 in Belfast.  As you know the mystery marriage is on their child's bc.  The first two children are born in Belfast.  The rest of the children in Glasgow.  His work in Glasgow seems to be for the 'corporation'. Which I am assuming is the council.  Works as a labourer and then as a labourer for the cleaning department.  Also labourer for a mason.  So all fairly low level work.  I have tried various India website to pin point a marriage but no luck.

Thanks for all help so far

They were married in Belfast in 1889.

Lynda

Does the marriage certificate say he is a widow?

I do not have any marriage certificates.  The bc give the marriage dates.  One child has marriage date of 1877 India, mother is Agnes Adams,  she would have been about 4 years old, so assume she is not the wife he married in 1877.  Other children's bc give marriage as 1889 in Belfast.

Cannot find any marriage certificates for either India or Belfast.
