Daniel Kirk, Loughborough?
« on: Monday 07 March 16 21:51 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information about Daniel Kirk d.o.b. unknown who married Elizabeth Cooper in 1799 in Ancaster, Lincolnshire.  All I know is that he was a gardener and probably lived in Loughborough at some stage in his life.

I can check the loughborough 1811 census next time in the library but without further info it will be difficult. If born around 1780 ish  he may not have been alive for the 1841. Is there a possibility he died in l,Borough?

I don't know if you have seen this.

Leicester Chronicle 3 October 1829

On Tuesday last, an inquest was taken before Charles Meredith Esq., coroner, at The Black Horse Inn, Loughborough, on the body of Daniel Kirk, gardener,  aged 55, who, late on Saturday night, missed his way, and making a wrong turn, got into a manure hole, where he was found suffocated on Sunday morning. - Verdict, accidental death.

Looks like our man. He may well be in 1811 and burials then. I will check.

Thank you both for your help so far.  I have indeed read the newspaper article about the unpleasant death of Daniel Kirk. I have not been able to find a record for this death.

If this is the same person he would have been born in 1774 and 25 years old when he married in 1799.  I have the marriage cert of his daughter Sarah Kirk born 1813 in Loughborough and baptised in 1843, together with her sister Jane.  This was at All Saints, Loughborough.

On the marriage certificate is, of course her father - Daniel Kirk, gardener.  I don`t know whether he was deceased or living at that time. He would have been about 71 years old.  Date of Sarah`s marriage to Thomas Hallam was 27.1.1845, Parish of St. Peter, Nottingham. Sarah & Thomas lived in Pinfold Gate, Loughborough.  There`s obviously a strong connection to Loughborough.

I don`t know much about Jane I`m afraid except that she was born about 1819.  I am wondering if there were more children. Daniel was married in 1799 and Sarah born in 1813 which is a big gap.  I wonder if there`s anything to be found on Elizabeth Kirk (nee Cooper).

Sarah, by the way, called her first born child John COOPER Hallam.  It`s strange that she and Jane were not baptized until 1843.  There must have been a reason for this.

Someone has sent me the following:
"The only information I have on the burial of Daniel Kirk aged 71 is from a CD produced by Leicestershire & Rutland FHS, which is an index only and so only gives minimal information.  There may be more information in the actual Parish Register, but this is usually limited to abode and possibly occupation.  "
