Can You read his middle name?
« on: Monday 18 July 05 16:20 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

After help from "willow2670" - I have changed the name of one one my relations""

Do you agree I had it down wrongly (again!!)
I had Neil L Foster down - but in one census he called himself James Foster!

I think now that the "L" was a flowery "J" fro James - do you agree?

Cheers

Keith

P.S. Make sure you read the details properly on census records - not a quick scan - it stops errors!!

Are there any other capital "L" of "J" on the same census sheet, sometimes it helps to compare.

I agree with Annie, it does look like a pound sign, but I'm really going to confuse things now because there seems to be a short line across just under the top loop, could it be a peculiar shaped E?

L gets my vote. In fact it is how I was taught to write a capitol 'L' at school.

Could be a pretty Z if we really want it to be something else than an 'L'  ;)
Looking at the original image and the way the enumerator writes 'Liverpool' I'd go for L too.
