cathcart cemetery, glasgow

my great great grandparents, john and janet gibb are buried at cathcart cemetery, apparently in lair numbers 946/947, section P the headstone has been tipped over, but my sister and I are travelling from New Zealand to Glasgow in May this year and would love to site the grave if possible, any suggestions as to how to find it would be much appreciated - i had been in contact with the council several years ago, but havent been able to reach them via email over the last few weeks. 

Any suggestions would be gratefully received

thanks for the suggestions, I cant ring because of the time difference, i have been in touch with the renfrewshire historical group on fb and they suggested that people regularly walk their dogs in the cemetery...... and someone may be able to find the spot.  would be very grateful, i have the maps etc. and if i could just have the general area in the 'P' section it would be a help as we have limited time in Glasgow

Another approach is to use the site http://www.cwgc.org    Here you will find Cathcart cemetery and some 250 or so forces graves. The CWGC monuments are very distinctive, so you can spot them quickly.  There are several in section "P" (eg P.455 )- so you can quickly orient yourself.  This technique works for any (most) cemeteries that have CWGC burials.  I have used this technique in unfamiliar sites, and it works well.    Doug.

thanks Doug, I had wondered if i could use the war graves to try and track it, so i will have a go and fingers xd I find it, appreciate the suggestion, will respond after my trip and let you know if i did find it.

Thanks Sue; hope you have a good trip and successful find.  I was brought up only a couple of miles from the Cemetery - though I don't live near now.  It's big, and quite overgrown in parts.  Nice walks also through nearby Linn Park.

Sue, I have contacted the Cemetery Services via phone on your behalf (details here www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/article/1718/Cemeteries-and-burials).

They have ways of helping you locate the lairs when you visit. They tell me they can mark the area where the lairs are with white arrows with paint so you will be able to pin point the exact location of the lairs when you visit.

I have the email of the person I spoke to who is expecting your email with further details. I will send it to you now via PM. Good to get it done now as he tells me it can take up to four weeks to organise this.

My apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place!

Having read a few of the posts in this section, could someone help if possible?

My Great Grandfather Samuel James Sanderson is buried in Cathcart, in Section N, lair 139 (could possibly be 189 as the book was blurry)

I took a trip over there and section N looks like a bomb has hit it, and I couldn't locate the grave.  I've phoned East Renfrewshire and they have said they will mark the spot in yellow paint for me, and give me a call.   

If someone is familiar with this spot or perhaps even the gravestone, could you confirm what state the lair is in, is the stone flat (if there at all).
