Lookup: Wilts MI 1822.
« on: Sunday 28 February 16 22:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can I request a look up for references to the following names in Wanborough

Harward - 17th to 18th century
Iles [also spelt Illes and Eyles] - 17th to 19th century
Keen [or Keene] - 18th and 19th century.

Also can I ask for a check of the following:

Keen/Keene in Minety [17th century]

Thanks in advance
Matt

Incidentally does anyone know if the monuments/memorials listed in here still exist?

There is a gravestone for a Iles by the path, near the door to the church at Wanborough, I can remember seeing it the last time I was there. I do not remember the name or date though.

I think this is mentioned in the book I was looking at. I can't remember who it is for though but it's nice to know there's one there.

Just found my Harward ancestor on the list of parish vicars. I had seen this before but I forgot where the image was on the internet.

Thanks

Matt

Hello Matt

My apologies for the delay.  I thought I'd set things up for me to receive message alerts but nothing came through and I only stumbled on your request today!

I found:
Wanborough

pg 164:  To the Memory of Thos. Eyles, who died Feb. 18, 1764, Aged 79 years.

pg 168:  Here lyeth ye body of Henry Iles, who died June 18th, 1746, Aged 51 years.

pg 169:  To the memory of Michael Eyles, who departed this life the 18 of Sep. 1798, Aged 52 years.
Weep not for me that I have lost my Breath,
My Paine were such as made me wish for death,
Christ, my redeemer, knew which way was best
To ease my grief, and set my soul at rest.
Next entry:  To the Memory of Mary, the Wife of Michael Eyles, who departed this Life the 14 of Oct. 1795, Aged 50 years.

There were no entries for Keen/Keene or Harward.

Similarly, there was nothing for Minety.

As for the actual monuments, their inclusion in the book shows they were decipherable in 1822 but I'm unaware of the current situation.

Thanks for all that information. I've managed to find these and all the other references to the names I'm researching and now have all the extracts I think I need from the book.

You are correct about there not been anything in there for Minety. I think I wrote that down by mistake.
