When I requested my Dad's records it took a full year, but I think a lot of the delay was because my Dad never claimed his medals. No matter how long the wait it was worth it.

Trish

My father never claimed his Home Guard medal. When I claimed it some 5 years ago it took the mandatory period which from memory was 3 months.

I sent away yesterday for my beloved grandfather's ww2 service records and hoping I don't have to wait too long. I have been able to supply them with his service number. Fingers crossed its just a few weeks to wait.

I received the same letter. I had to wait a year (but this was a few years ago).

I didn't mind the wait. I knew it would take some time and it was a lovely surprise when it arrived.  :)

As the original instigator of this thread, all respondents will be interested to hear that my cousin has just received the army records she requested - only took 3 weeks after all!

As I mentioned earlier on this thread, my brother applied for our father's WW2 navy record at the end of February and received it on 31st March, so only just over 4 weeks.
