LEAPER, Stephen born around 1760 married Susan Anthony
« on: Sunday 28 February 16 07:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Hoping somebody can please help as I am finding it really difficult to find any information on the above family names, even in SEAX the essex archives.

If anybody can help could I please just have the name of Stephen Leaper's father and mother he may have been born around 1760 in essex and also if anyone has the details for his wife Susannah
or Susan Anthony/Antony we would be so grateful.

We have hit a real wall.
Many thanks

Michelle

Stephen Leapers will written 17 May 1827 doesn't help only mentions his eldest son Stephen and his youngest son Ephraim, although all to be divided equally between his surviving children.
It does state he was a wheelwright.
Both he and his wife Susan share a grave at Coggeshall, Susan was buried 23 May 1827 and Stephen on 28 May 1827.

Hi
Sorry not got a lot but there is an entry on the Essex Will beneficiary index
Ste Leaper grandson of J Colby Will of 1770 from Buttsbury.

I can't find a Colby,Leaper marriage but a close look at that Will might help.
Otherwise he was a wheel wright ,perhaps his apprenticeship might appear somewhere with a parish and father on it.

Sorry

Stephen/Susannahs Childrens Baptisms are on FreeREG
(I am using old site that I find more user friendly)
There are 7 Children 1784-1795 under Leaper

If you dont have all of the Childrens names athey are there. It would help with possible Parents names for Stephen/Susannah.

I did notice there Son Stephen 1789 may be under LEPIERE in 1841 Census on Familysearch.Org
(Anc is mucking up for me so cant check actual entry on there)

EDIT, down as Stephen Leaper born 1801, Brother Ephraim is next door, both Wheelwrights.
1851 under Stephen Leper born c 1789 Gt Coggeshall.

Ref SEAX
John Colby, farmer of Runwell wrote his will 24 February 1770, it was proved 8 December 1780 with a notation that he died 29 October 1780 at Runwell.
To his sister Elizabeth Snowdon 10 guineas, his niece Elizabeth Snowdon 3 guineas, his grandson Stephen Leaper gets the bed, small chest and the bedroom furniture.
His son William Colby the remainder and is executor.

There is a listing for a marriage license for a Joseph Leaper to Amelia Colby dated 1751 at the Essex Record Office Chelmsford.
Ref:  D/AEL  1757/24. Archdeaconry of Essex.
A copy of the actual document will give a place of intended marriage and where both bride and groom reside.
