EDIT, I note this post doubles up on some information Cando has already given.
There may be a couple of extra details contained, so I will leave as is with apologies. ;D

Further to the Geelong district sightings

James GLEESON gives a public lecture on his cattle cure specific the same year. May 11 1863
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/150408628

Mr McKenzie of Jan Juc (near Torquay which was formerly Puebla ) gives written testimony to the power of the cattle cure. 2nd July 1863
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/150409806

GLEESON James is granted licence of the Yarborough Inn in April 1863 (The address given in his advertisement)
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/150408198

The licence granted again 1864
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/150463492

I think when James GLEESON died at the Town Hall Hotel, he was possibly the licensee of the establishment.

Bridget GLEESON, a widow in1876 advertises she will apply for license  of the Town Hall hotel Echuca.
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/113583796

This licence was renewed  at least to 1882.   Bridget GLEESON the Town Hall Hotel

As the Obituary says, the remains were moved to the Echuca Cemetery and she is listed on the Echuca cemetery register.

Please contact the cemetery office if you have any queries about records or photographs on 0417 115 314 or at echucacemetery( AT)bigpond.com

I suspect this second marriage was not at all successful. ::)

By 1887 KEWLEY had acquired the license of the Town Hall Hotel and was behaving badly and abusing his wife.

1887 July KEWLEY imprisoned at Sandhurst for abusing Bridget.

1887 August. Further violence . Orderd to leave the district.

And to top of Thomas KEWLEY's unacceptable behaviour, in 1888 he sold the contents of the hotel at auction....well he advertised his intention.  Surely the contents were owned by Bridget.

http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article114658692

Aside from all the information found about James GLEESON including the death registration with the correct parents albeit his mother's maiden name mistranscribed, his marriage certificate would validate the research.

Bridget hung on to the Hotel Property with or without its contents which I agree were hers.  ;D

1887 she offered the property for lease
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/114656336

In 1913, A dispute over a lease. Mrs KEWLEY was the owner of the property on the corner of High and Radcliffe Streets Echuca.

Her address on the Echuca Electoral lists from 1903 to 1915 is High Street Echuca

21 Nov 1882
A serious stabbing fracas occurred at, Gleeson’s Town Hall Hotel, Echuca on
Sunday night. It appears a daughter of the proprietress was, for some reason, turned
out from her home, and two of her brothers went to a sitting room upstairs to enquire the reason…............

Town Hall hotel, along with many others in Echuca, closed 1897.

Former licensee claiming compensation in 1898. The hotel was owned by the Estate of James GLEESON.  Well that prevented Thomas KEWLEY selling the premises!!

I suggest you have a search on TROVE for more snippets about the family.

In 1922 a pharmacy was established in the premises by the GOUGH family.

Interesting family  indeed Cando ;D

A lot of information for monemore to look at and no doubt he will be online again very soon to let us know if it has all been helpful in his searchings.

Wonder what the poor daughter did to be "turned out" ::)
