Windows 10 Download
« on: Friday 26 February 16 15:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
How long does it take to dowload Windows 10, and are there any complications/problems etc, and is it worth it.
Peter.

Given that Microsoft are wanting all windows users weather they want it or not very little options to avoid the inevitable!
Free option to update to windows 10 from Vista/windows 8/8.1 ends July 2016.
Depending on your download speed, allow one and half hours to do the initial installation.
Updates to bring it to current, well how long is a piece of string!

Hi

"Is it worth it?"

In my view? = "YES!"

Is it perfect? = By no means.

Is it worse than preceding? = Absolutely not

Will it run older versions of software products? = Quite a few which did not work in other versions

Is it worth it? = "YES" if you don't have to pay for it!
= "YES" if you do, my view.

Ray

Post-script =
I also installed the latest Linux version on a spare (old Win7) laptop
Bought/installed a cheap SSD (£30)
FREE Mint13 inc Firefox & Thunderbird & Libre Office = wonderful!
You can keep Rootschat running on the old one and answer the queries on your shiny new one
etc etc..

PPS = Don't throw that laptop away, try my post-script suggestion ?

PPPS = It may just be the old one I chose but it "seems just as fast as" the  Win10/I7/16gb/1TBSSD
( the weakest point in the link is the internet connection !!!!!!!! )

It does take quite a long while for windows 10 to download, then upgrade, then update.
So start at a time you are not desperate to use your computer.

One tip... Before you start set your computer's 'sleep' option to never. That ensures the process happens and completes without interruption.

Also don't forget to back up all your data in case anything goes wrong.

I would definitely say it's worth upgrading to Windows 10.

I'm happy with Windows 10.At first I had no sound when I updated the first day it was available, in just over a month I was able to get updated drivers. I found that my computer was n't shutting down properly prior on Windows 10 and updating to 10 solved it. There was a problem when I updated that I could n't play cds or DVDs despite having the DVD player which Windows gave me but now I've got music back and now even my data cd's of parish records are searchable and viewable and I'd resigned myself to looking at them on an old computer.

Well I have decided to give it a go, downloaded and installed yesterday took 8 hours and everything seems fine so far.
I may be asking for some more help and advice in the future, but a question now is can I still use ccleaner and malewarebytes.
Many thanks.
