Hi Debbie,

Kilbarrack is on the North side of Dublin, I will look through the books on Cemeteries, it sounds like it may be in a Church yard rather than a Cemetery, However check out this Web Site ,

Hi Kate,

I wondered if I could ask for your help / opinion.

I am researching various family names. On my mother's side I've been researching Styles / Day / O'Sullivan / O'Shea from Kerry and have had some success (particularly with the first two). My mother's name was O'Sullivan and I see you have interests there too.

My father's side is from Dublin and is proving much more difficult. My grandfather was Edward Horan (b.1911) and although he lived in Dublin I have discovered he was born in Carrickmaross, Co. Monaghan. His family were not from Monaghan but I don't know if they originally came from Dublin or elsewhere in Ireland!! His parents were Daniel Horan and Bridget Brennan.

My father's mother was definitely from Dublin. She was born May (probably Mary) Byrne. They lived in North Dublin - Donnycarney - but I have been informed the family was originally from South Dublin. She was born in 1912 and had 2 elder sisters, Sarah & Jane. Their parents were Charles Byrne and Mary Walker, herself daughter of Joseph Walker & Sarah Rooney.

Wondered if you had any ideas, suggestions?

Many Thanks
Denis

Hi,

For your father's side I would look up the marriages of Damiel Horan and Bridget Brennan. Perhaps first looking for other children born before Edward to pin down a likely year of marriage. Or you could look for them in the 1911 census where Edward was born. This would show how many years they were married and then you can look for their marriage. Same really for your father's mother.

The indexes are available in the Dublin GRO and on film at your local family history centre. The census is in the Dublin National Archives and (I think) also on film at the FHC.

First time I post in this forum.

I'm searching for more information on the following persons living in Dublin (1772? - 1820):

Name                               Address

William Duncan, Esq        34, Charlemont Street, merchant
John Duncan, Esq              6, Granby Rd., merchant
James Duncan, Esq          17, Eccles Street (a Hospital now), W Indies Trader
Leland Crosthwait, Bart    Bank of Ireland, Bank Director
Rebecca Duncan
Agnes Duncan
Jane Duncan
Margaret Duncan

John Craig

David Taylor                      Eden Quay (agent of the Dublin, Glasgow &
                                         Cork Steam Packet Company). Edendale.

A son of William Duncan, James Duncan emigrated to Barranquilla, Colombia, South America, on or about 1815 and his brother William followed him later. James Duncan, the son, married Jane Anne Emily Dimmock in 1823 in Colombia and their two children were sent to Ireland (?) and/or England to study. I have reason to believe they lived with David Taylor in Edendale in the early 1830s... but I'm not sure.

The son of James Duncan, Esq., married a daughter of Leland Crosthwait and became the manager of the Bank of Ireland in Sligo. I have more info on him.

I've hit a brickwall trying to get more info/data on my ancestors in Ireland... it has been difficult. I'm interested in the mercantile trade in Dublin in early 1800s.

Any help is appreciated.
Duncan, Craig, Taylor, Crosthwait, Sellar, Dennistoun, Baird, Fox, Malet, Lewis, Dimmock, Allan, McIndoe
