Hi

Kated here. There is a Charles Smyth in the Shaws 1850 directory
Charles F., 7 Stephen's green North (Esq.)

http://www.loughman.dna.ie/dublin1850/xdubdir79.html#Smyth

There are lots of SMYTHs but no Charles to be found in Dublinor Wicklow  in the Griffiths that I can see.

I presume that with a name like SMYTH, he was Anglican? So check for Charles marriage in the indexes.

Hope this helps

Kate

Hi Kate,

Well how could I refuse such an offer! I am looking for Charles SMYTH (my gggf) artist / picture dealer in the Dublin or Wicklow areas, I don't have any more information on him and am desperate to make a breakthrough. His son Frederick (my ggf) was born in 1862 and emmigrated to Liverpool in 1881.
Could you possibly look for him in the Griffiths valuation?
Fingers crossed and thank you
John

Hi Donna,

The Coombe is the name of the maternity hospital on the south side of Dublin. His birth should have been registered in the Dublin South district. Did the GRO check all possible spellings of his name? He may have been registered late. Also I think the Family history centres have some copies of the Coombe birth records that could be worth checkings.

Hi Kate,
I am not having much success finding any info on the Irish side of my family.
My parents, Rupert F. Dunham and Marion Charlotte Eager married at Stephens Green ?? Church, Dublin Jan 3, 1948. Her parents were Thomas Edward Eager  (4 Priestfield, Dolphins Barn d. March 03, 1934)  and Annie E. Barnaby (Hannaville Pk. Terenure, Dublin, Ireland), her siblings were Thomas F.B. , Robert, and Harriet.  All I know is that her father  was a 'cycle mechanic' and had a race drivers school and that one of the brothers was RAF and lived in Durban, South Africa. My mother died in 1955.
What resources and direction can you suggest?
Thank you in advance.
Cheers,
Paul Dunham
Reston, Virginia, USA

Eager, Barnaby
My mother, Mariam Charlotte Eager was the daughter of Thomas Edward Eager and Anne E. Barnaby of Dolphins Barn, Dublin, Ireland

Hi Paul,

What exactly are you looking for? You could check the Dublin directories for Thomas Eager as a cycle mechanic/ race driver. Do you want to search back generations? Do you have birth, marriage and death certificates?

Regards

Kate

I am trying to trace my ggg grandfather's family.  John Murphy, married Elizabeth O'Hara.  They had at least one child, my own ggg grandfather, also named John Murphy, born approx 1822.  The family moved to Australia in 1835, when young John was approx 13.  I have nothing to go on except for these few names and datesand that they family came from Dublin. I know this may be a stretch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks Debra

Hi Kate,
Would be grateful for a look up in Griffiths Eval.
Not sure of first name, could be either William or Hugh Paterson, (wife Joanna) a farmer somewhere in Co. Armargh. Also a Robert (wife Mary) McMillan also a farmer, believed to be Co. Armargh.  Anything at all on these two families would be a big breakthrough for me.
Thanks for any help you can give

Hi Liz,

You should post thison the Armagh board! I can see no Paterson nor McMillan in the Griffiths Valuation which in Armagh was taken in 1864. Though another sources references 3 Patersons somewhere in Armagh.

Sorry Kated

Hi Kate,
Thank you for trying, I thought the griffiths valuation may have been a bit late for these families.  I know the Paterson were in Co. Armagh,  but William/Hugh possibly died long before then.
              Thanks again

Hi Kate!

I haven't got much information for you to go on, but
I was wondering if you would be kind enough to have
a look for the family of Cornelius Spain.

All I know is that he had a son who was also called
Cornelius and who (according to the 1851 census)
was born in Dublin in about 1817. This Cornelius
married in Derbyshire in 1838 and at that time he
gave his father's occupation as being a silk mercer.

Anything you can find out would be a great help, as
I've only just found out about my Irish ancestors and
don't really know what records are available or the
best way to go about tracing them.

Hope to hear from you soon.
