Hi,

Wouldn't you start looking for the birth registration of Joseph from the Dublin GRO or at your local family history centre? Do you have his death cert from the same place? Same for Marriane's as this would give you her mother's maiden name.

If Henry was from Yorkshire, look for his in freebmd.

They should all in the 1901 and 1911 census, worth checking for the pub and at any address from certificates.

Hope this helps
Kate (the one with the ideas, not the directories!)

Hi,

If you don't have his birth certificate already, being born in 1912, the place to start is the birth indexes which are in the Dublin GRO and should also be available in your local family history centre. This will give you his parents name and address. You can search for the siblings too, once you know if it is Dublin North or South District and then you can look on the census for 1911 for that address.

This is available in the National Archives in Dublin. There's very little online. Check my website for resources.

Good Luck

Kate

Hi Kate,

Well how could I refuse such an offer! I am looking for Charles SMYTH (my gggf) artist / picture dealer in the Dublin or Wicklow areas, I don't have any more information on him and am desperate to make a breakthrough. His son Frederick (my ggf) was born in 1862 and emmigrated to Liverpool in 1881.
Could you possibly look for him in the Griffiths valuation?
Fingers crossed and thank you
John

Hello Catherine
My grandfather, Thomas John Farrell, was born in Glasgow in 1867 but I see from his birth certificate that his parents were married in Dublin.
John Farrell and Maria Kenny
November 5th 1857
Booterstown Dublin.
Can you look up this marriage for me so that I can more information or can you tell me how to go about it?
Thank you for anything you can do

Dear Kate. I would be extremely grateful if you should ever come across any references to the COLBERT surname in Ireland to pass this information onto me. I am pursuing a one name study for this name and many of my contacts (including myself) have Irish history.

Thank you very much for your kind offer with all of these wonderful resources!
Regards Jen  :D
