Hi

I wonder if anyone can help with the following. I would be grateful for any advice please.

My Grandfather John William MEAD was born in Somerset in 1903 but I have been unable to trace his parents on the 1901 census. They are not on the England 1901 census. As they were married in DUBLIN in 1901-1903 I presume that is where they should be on the census. Has anyone seen them please?
They are ARTHUR SAMUEL MEAD (AKA SAMUEL ARTHUR MEAD) and he married ELIZABETH SWORDS in Dublin.

Thanks you for any help as they seem to vanish for that period until John William Mead was born in 1903.

Cheers

Ruby

Hi Catherine
Rebecca Thorpe -  daughter of Samuel Thorpe -  married James Milner Pottage in Liverpool 1857  - she's listed on all census as born in Ireland - and as Dublin is the closest to Liverpool -  maybe I can start here -  would it be possible to look up 1851 and see if she appears living with her Dad? - not much information I'm afraid  - but I would appreciate any help you can give me  - Thanking you in advance -  Annie

The 1901 census in Dublin is not indexed so I suggeswt you start by looking for their marriage in the indexes which you can see at your local family history centre. The register entry can be bought from the Dublin GRO and that should have an address.

The 1851 census of Ireland was destroyed. There is an 1851 city of Dublin householders list that survived but it only has head of household. Also there are Dublin directories. What was her father's occupation? If he was a trader or gentry, he should be in it.

People from many counties of Ireland came through Dublin to Liverpoo. I would start with looking for SAmuel on the Griffiths valuation to try and narrow down the parish or townland. Also does any of the UK censuses specify county or townland name?

Dear Catherine

Please will you look up any available Catholic information you have. I am looking for Terrance Toole, born 1795-1800, Ireland.Occupation: StonemasonI believe my mother said that the family came from Dublin, but as both grandparents were Irish I really do not know which one she was referring to  and was I too young at the time.
His first child was James Toole, and was born in Manchester, England, 1819, others were Elizabeth, Terrance jnr, Frances and Charles all born in Manchester. Both Elizabeth and Frances marriage certificates give their Father as Terrance Toole born Ireland.
If it is not too much trouble I would appreciate any information or advice.
I have completed a lot of of searches and drawn many blanks, but I did note that there was a Terence Toole in the 1850 Directory of Dublin. So perhaps the name had survived through another descendant.
Thank you for your great offer.
Pat
