Hi!

I hope I am not too late to take you up on your generous offer, could you please check in the "1970 Directory of Dublin" for one "John Joseph Reid" please?

Thanks!

Hello A.P Duncan,

Re the Duncan/Crosthwaith surname,

The Surname Duncan is Scottish,

I don't know if you have access to the 1850 Directory of Dublin, in it your Crosthwaith Ancestor  has a good mention.

Thomas Crosthwaith, was a Director of the Bank of Ireland which was founded in 1783, it was at

2 College Green,

Dublin 1,

It only closed about two years ago, but the Business went to the Central Bank of Ireland ,also College Green,
Telephone them for information at 01677680 or e-mail them at:  www.bankofireland.ie and ask about their Archives.

Leland Crosthwaith and sons seemed to have a Business in Chalpleizod, Co Dublin,

Thomas Crosthwaith J,P 9 Fitzwellian St East also with an address in Chapelizod, called Mulberry House, the above seem to be a family.

I have three Duncans mentioned in the 1850 Directory, William, John and James

Regards Catherine

I am trying to trace my family history.   I am originally from Francis St and brought up in Bellvue buildings off Thomas Ct, Dublin 8.
I am 70 yrs young and left dear old Ireland when I was sixteen because there was no work in Dublin at the time.  I would welcome any contact with anyone familiar with Dublin 8/Taylors Lane/School St; anyone that lived/lives there or had any family there.  My mother's name was Johanne Lawlor DOB 2/5/1905 - she worked at Jacob's Biscuit factory.  Her father/my grandfather was called Thomas Lawlor and worked at Guinness brewery @ James St.  My Grandmother's maiden name was Ellen O'Neil.  Her father's name was Danny O'Neil.  The O'Neil's were originally from Co Wicklow.
My father was Thomas Stanley DOB 22/1/05.  He was from Francis St and had 7 brothers and 2 sisters.  The family had shops on Francis St. until about the early-mid-1940's.
I am trying to obtain some photographs of my mother Johanne Lawlor Stanley, as I have none.  I am hoping that someone might have a photo of my mother perhaps with their family or work or a school photo.  If anyone knew the family, I would welcome correspondance.  Thank you.  I can be contacted at (*)

My wife's grandmother was Hannah Maria Hughes born about 1890-1900.  She was the daughter of Alfred Hughes a Catholic from Dublin Ireland. Do you have them in any of your databases? Thank You in advance for any help.

Dear Catherine

I wonder if you might have time to help me look for my g-grandfather Edward, born around 1864, probably in Dublin, although the family was originally from County Clare.  I am also desperately seeking his father, Arthur William Cowan, all we know about him is that he supposedly died of yellow fever in South America.

I really would appreciate any information you might have, as I'm completely stuck on this side of the family.

Thanking you in advance,

Regards

Robert

Catherine and Neil,

Have you looked for their births in the indexes as they were both born post 1864 and should have been registered. The indexes are available on film at your local family hsitory centre and at the GRO in Dublin.

Dear Catherine,
My family has been looking for my grandmother's family for many years. Her name was Kathleen Burns, Daughter of Ernest and Maryanne Burns. She was born about 1889 but was reared by her maternal grandparents, Owen and ? Howey (Hoey). She took their name until later years. In 1901 I expect She was in school, possibly the Dominican Convent. In 1891 Owen Howey was living in 118 Lower Gardiner St (Dublin City) St Thomas. Could you help me with the 1901 Census. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
