Hi everyone
I wonder if anyone could help me please. I am looking for any records for the Becton family.
My Grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Becton. I have her birth, marriage and death certificates but cannot find any record of her parents.
She had a brother George Becton and they are the children of Richard Becton and Rose Farley.  Both children were born in Brabazon Row, Dublin in 1867 and 1871.
My understanding is that the children were orphaned at a young age and I was always told that Mary Becton was raised in Enniscorthy but a search in that region has always failed.

Would appreciate any help at all.

Many thanks
Seymor

As far as I know, only the archives in Dublin, National library, cork library. Does the famiy history centre have any on film?

Kate

Hiya Kate,

Is the National Library the same as Dublin City Library at Pearse Street? I think not Kate as the National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/fr_cata.htm is in Kildare Street so there are Newspaper Archives in two places in Dublin. I would be astounded if the LDS FHCs had any old Irish Newspapers on film. http://www.dublincity.ie/living_in_the_city/libraries/faq/newspaper_collection.asp

All the Best,

Chris

Hi Kate
As far as I am aware the family history libraries don't have them but I might be wrong. I will check. Unfortunately I might have to wait until I can get to Dublin as it is a bit far from here (Australia!!!!!!)   ;D
Thanks Christy

Hiya Christy,

Leave that look up with me. I will be in Manchester this coming weekend. There are a lot of Dublin lookups on these pages so it will be worth my while taking the train (using my bus pass there is no charge) to Dublin and stopping over in a b&b or an independent hostel.

I agree that Australia is a long way from Dublin. Ballynahinch in Co. Down is, in Irish terms, a fair distance.

All the Best,

Chris

Yes I do have Mary Becton's birth thanks. Trying to find some record of her parents, but other than what is on the birth certificate I have found nothing.
Appreciate the reply.

Hi There,

Is the offer of Free Look-ups in Dublin still on? Please can you help me if they are?
I am looking for the birth of Ann Gearing born in Dublin abt 1850. I am not completely sure if this is the correct spelling. Anything near would be a somewhere to start

Thats all I know about her birth I'm afraid. As the family story goes  she came to Liverpool aged 14. Later married a man named George Broster. abt 1867. I have yet to find a marriage cert for their marriage, but I would think the marriage would have been in Liverpool but you never know.
Ann remainend in Liverpool in the Latimer Street/Scotland Road area until her death in 1934. Any help in finding any birth details of this Lady would be fantastic.

Best wishes and thanks for looking

Hello San,

I am sure the Free Look Ups will continue for a long time.
I looked in The Dublin Directory 1850 and had no success http://www.dublin1850.com/dublin1850/index.html
Then I tried Griffiths Valuations of Ireland (1848-64) and had a little bit of luck but not enough - the names appeared in Co. Londonderry and Co. Cork http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php
Some are on the LDS familysearch site http://www.familysearch.org

All the Best, Chris

If you have time please could you look up Michael Jolly.  He was born (according to English Census Returns).  In Stillorgan, Nr Dublin.  I would appreciate his birth details (especially parent's names) and marriage details.  He was born c1832 and married Margaret Stewart (born c1834 in Winchester, England), presumably in Stillorgan/Dublin.  Their eldest child Julia Susanna was bc1859 also in Stillorgan.  Further children were then born in Dublin.  Their youngest child was born c1869 in Dublin and they lived in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1871.  Many thanks for reading this and hopefully finding some information out for me.
