Hello Dolly,

Birmingham Libraries have their own Web Site. There is a catalogue. I tried to look at it but my PC will not show it to me. You may have more luck as your PC is probably set to get things in your own area. The Catalogue may show books on Irish genealogy or Scottish genealogy. Two words are sufficient to do a search of a library catalogue. www.birmingham.gov.uk/libraries

All the Best,

Chris

Dear Catherine
I would be so grateful if you could help me.  I am looking for my g/gf g/gm on the 1901 census for Dublin

               Michael Smith    painter  (decorator)
               Mary     Smith    huckster
I particularly want to know where they lived.  Some years
ago I visited Dublin and found the above information but
as they had about five children and there were no children
on the census  I disregarded it and did not take the details...foolish me .

Hi Kate,
re the list of orphans in the 1901 census.  I am looking for  John Growney, born 1890, the Coombe, Dublin.  His mother Maria Growney was unmarried at the time of Johns birth, she married William Fry in 1899 and had another son.  I have her and the new baby (my grandfather) in the 1901 census but no sign of John, however he is with her in the 1911 census and is listed as John Fry, stepson (to William).
I wonder if he might have been in an orphanage in 1901?  I will probably have to wait until the 1901 census is online and searchable, but perhaps you have him on your list.
Many thanks
Michelle
Looking for Fry in London, Surrey, Devon& Dublin. Humphries in Wandsworth.  Marsh in Wandsworth & Kingston. Blacker in Wandsworth & Battersea.
Growney in Meath & Dublin. Also Harris and Walker in London

HI I wonder if you could possibly help me if you have the time.  I am looking for the details of a birth that I have most of the record of.  It is for

Male Jolly

Born on 28/11/1865

in Stillorgan, Dublin.

I have found this on the IGI site but there is also the number 0863 after the date of birth.  He is definitely in my tree as his parents are Michael Jolly and Margaret Stewart.  I am new to the whole family history and have never searched for anyone in Ireland so am a bit confused especially with the 0863 thing!  I have not seen anything like it on any other births/baptisms except ones listed in or around Stillorgan!  I would dearly like his name if possible.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this, and hopefully for any information that you can give me!

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me.  I am trying to trace my husband's grandmother and I defy anyone to come up with a solution  :)  Her name is Dolores Hemsbock (this is the name she used when she got married).

However, there is a story behind her birth!!  She was born 26th September 1906 and baptised at Shrewsbury Cathedral, Shropshire.  The mother is down on the baptism cert as Mary O'Connor (O'Conor) formerly Kilpatrick, father Edward William Hinstock.  The father's name was changed two weeks later to Henstock.  I don't know whether Dolores was born in Ireland or England.  She was given up to Sisters of Charity Children's Home, Victoria, London in March 1906 where her name was registered Mary Dolores Handcox, fathers name Henry W Henstock, mothers name Mary O'Connor.  Dolores was taken from the orphanage by her mother on June 2 1908 but was returned a couple of months later.  I don't know if she was taken by her mother back to Ireland and then returned as Dolores left the orphanage on March 6th 1926.  The last known address for the mother (on the orphanage registry) was 5 Laoagh Villas, Ashfield Road, Ranelagh Dubin.  The father went to America.  Can anyone researching Irish ancestry give me some direction as to where I might start looking?

I figure that Mary O'Connor returned to Ireland to the address above in sometime between 1906 and 1908 and it is believed that she died in 1908 again, we believe in Ireland.  It might be possible that the mother returned to the family home of Kilpatrick's in Ranelagh and this name may show up on the 1901 or 1911 census.  Is it possible to find out who lived at this address during this period - electoral registers etc?  Obviously, Mary might not be her known name, it appears that every female child was called Mary!!  I'd be grateful if for any assistance in lookups or in unravelling this mystery.

Thanks, Sharon

Hei billabong,

These are people with the surname Abbott who were in Ireland during the time of Griffiths Valuation of Ireland. They were found in several counties http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php I think we may have to attempt to find Mary Elizabeth's grandfather.

All the Best, Chris

Hi Christopher

Any suggestions on how to locate Marcus Wm Smyth we have marriage cert
father's name and address's but he seems to have disappeared after his marriage apart from the fact that we do know one of his children was born in Bray.  So what would be the best sites to visit. As a visit to Dublin is out of the question for the time being.

Thanks

Mary Ellen
